Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an autoimmune disease that mainly includes Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). The problem affects tens of thousands, mainly young people in Poland. IBD, like some other autoimmune diseases, is considered a disease of developed societies and is an increasingly serious social problem.
In May 2016, we launched a public awareness campaign, 'Flaki rozrabiaki', dedicated to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The campaign aims to break the taboo in the public debate where this embarrassing topic is not addressed, as well as to provide knowledge about the disease and support for patients facing Crohn's disease (CDC) or ulcerative colitis (UC) on a daily basis.
Within the framework of the 'Flaky Flakes' campaign, we have developed the first socio-epidemiological report entitled. "Inflammatory bowel disease - an adversary growing in strength", which contains key information about the disease, as well as the quality of life of patients with IBD, which was based on a survey of patients with CD-C and UC.
A website has also been launched for people with NJZ www.flakirozrabiaki.org, which offers information about the disease, advice from a psychologist, a nutritionist, as well as stories from patients who lead interesting, active lives despite their illness.
The ambassador of the "Flaki rozrabiaki" campaign is Agata Młynarska, who herself has experienced gastrointestinal disease and actively supports people with this condition. Also involved were experts: Prof. Grażyna Maria Rydzewska, MD, PhD, and Martyna Głuszek-Osuch, MD, PhD, who supervise the campaign and the materials developed.
