On 5-12 August 2023, the seventh edition of the unique Onko Tour cycling rally in Poland will take place. The route is less than 600 km long - it leads through the Lower Silesian, Lubusz and West Pomeranian Voivodships.
The group consists of people with oncology experience, officials from the Office of the Patient Ombudsman and people who support oncology patients. The aim of the event is to promote prevention, support patients in their fight against cancer and educate the public about patient rights.
Exchange of experience
The initiator of the 'Onko Tour' is the 'Beat Cancer' Foundation, whose president is Katarzyna Gulczynska. - Prevention is a key element in taking care of health. And the rally is an excellent opportunity to convince and encourage Poles to have regular preventive examinations, which can save lives," he stresses.
During the tour, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences of fighting the disease and encourage a healthy and conscious lifestyle. Former cancer patients, who form the core of the group, will be authentic ambassadors of victory, ready to answer the toughest questions and share their stories.
Free research
In addition, the rally includes three Health picnicsduring which numerous free examinations, medical consultations and workshops on healthy lifestyles will be provided. Thanks to the cooperation with Lower Silesia Centre for Oncology, Pulmonology and Haematology in Wrocław, Zachodniopomorskie Oncology Centre in Szczecin and National Health Fund, picnic attendees will have access to expert information about the health system.
- It is very important that we take responsibility for our own health and remember to have regular preventive examinations. Prevention is key in preventing many diseases, including cancer. I believe that with the commitment of patients, officials and organisations such as the Overcome Cancer Foundation, together we can support those who are fighting the disease and encourage healthy lifestyles," says Bartłomiej Chmielowiec, Patient Ombudsman.
