The position of the Institute for Patients' Rights and Health Education supporting the APEL No. 10/21/P-VIII THE BUREAU OF THE GENERAL MEDICAL COUNCIL of 8 October 2021. to the Minister for Health i Minister for Finance, Funds and Regional Policy to increase excise duty on traditional cigarettes
The Institute for Patients' Rights and Health Education, in carrying out its statutory activity of promoting health education and pro-health attitudes among the society, wholeheartedly supports the appeal of the Presidium of the Supreme Medical Council to the Minister of Health and the Minister of Finance, Funds and Regional Policy to increase excise tax on traditional cigarettes. An increase in excise duty is important because excise duty, in addition to its revenue-generating function, also has non-fiscal - social - functions, including the protection of public health. Consequently, an increase in excise taxes should lead to a reduction in the consumption of tobacco products among the Polish population.
The Institute shares the substantive arguments presented in the Appeal of the Presidium of the Supreme Medical Council and appreciates all the efforts of institutions and individuals who, for the sake of the patient's well-being and health, take action to reduce the consumption of nicotine products.
