DKMS Foundation grant - 2nd edition of initiative for haemato-oncology patients launches

From 15 March 2023, patient organisations can apply for projects in the area of psychological support for haematooncology patients as part of the 2nd edition of the DKMS Foundation Grants, with a total funding pool of PLN 700,000. Grants can be applied for in two categories - psychological support for young and young patients and psychological support for adult patients. The deadline for submitting projects is 30 April this year.

The DKMS Foundation Grant was launched last year as part of the Programme for the Development of Polish Transplantology and Patient Support. The aim of the Grant is, among other things, to provide psychological support to haematooncology patients and their relatives in the process of treatment and recovery. The support is directed both to patients staying in transplant clinics and haematology wards throughout Poland and at home, after their treatment has been completed.

The DKMS Foundation is first and foremost a Marrow Donor Centre, and from the very beginning our mission has been to find a donor for every patient in the world in need of a haematopoietic stem cell transplant. At the same time, we are a non-governmental organisation and we are committed to supporting patients and their loved ones at all stages of the disease from diagnosis, through treatment, to complete recovery. Since 2018, there has been a Programme for the Development of Polish Transplantology and Patient Support. As part of the Programme, we support clinics and hospitals in terms of infrastructure improvement, expansion, purchase of equipment and medical supplies, and cooperate with patient organisations. It is in the area of supporting patient organisations that the new DKMS Foundation Grant initiative was established in 2022. In the first pilot edition, 18 applications were submitted and six organisations received grants to implement their projects - the says Ewa Nawrot, Senior Coordinator for Patient Organisations. This year, we have increased the pool of funds to PLN 700 000. We very much hope that, as in the previous edition, organisations will apply in large numbers, which will translate into real help for patients and their relatives in the area of psychological support. appeals Ewa Nawrot.

Apply for a grant

The DKMS Foundation Grant initiative is aimed at non-governmental organisations: associations, foundations, public benefit institutions operating in the territory of the Republic of Poland for at least 12 months prior to the date of submission of the Grant Application. The total amount of the grant to be awarded under the 2nd edition of the project is a maximum of PLN 700.00, while the Beneficiary may apply for a maximum of PLN 90,000 grant per project. The DKMS Foundation does not set a minimum amount of one grant, as the projects submitted to the programme may be very different and each of them will be considered individually by the Jury. Funds will be allocated for initiatives and projects involving psychological support for patients and their relatives in the process of treatment and recovery - both for patients staying at transplant clinics and haematology wards across Poland, and at home during and after treatment. Projects can be submitted in two categories - psychological support for young and young-onset haemato-oncology patients (up to 18 years of age) and psychological support for adult haemato-oncology patients.
