On the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day, the National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation is organising a conference on 20 October 2023 to disseminate knowledge on the growing problem of osteoporotic fractures in the rapidly ageing population of Poland and Europe and to identify opportunities for effective prevention of the disease, in particular fracture prevention.

World Osteoporosis Day has been celebrated on 20 October since 1996. The National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation is implementing the project entitled 'Osteoporosis Prevention Programme of the National Institute of Geriatrics, Rheumatology and Rehabilitation' within the framework of the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development 2014-2020 co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund. The conference received the Honorary Patronage of the Minister of Health Katarzyna Sójka and the Patient Ombudsman Bartłomiej Chmielowiec.
The aim is, on the one hand, to present to broad social groups the growing problem of osteoporotic fractures in the rapidly ageing population of Poland and Europe, and, on the other hand, to identify opportunities for effective prevention of this disease, in particular fracture prevention. The conference programme was prepared by a team of top experts, and the conference is addressed to all interested parties, including patients, health professionals and media representatives.
