For the 17th time, they ran together for health!
For whom this year?
For a friend, for a mum, for a grandparent, for a sister, for all the patients, for yourself... - as many participants at the start of this year's 17th "Oncourse - Together for Health!", as many special intentions.
On 8 September, for the 17th time, in a gesture of solidarity with cancer patients and their families 2,720 registered A total of 33,264 kilometres, which translated into the amount of PLN 621,000, which the Sarcoma and Meningioma Relief Association goes towards social programmes for patients, education and prevention!
"I have to admit that the 17th edition of Onkobieg surprised us with its reach. And because of the number of online participants who signed up until the last minute, but also because of the funds raised. This money is used throughout the year to, among other things, support patients undergoing cancer treatment and also preventive
and education of the public. We believe that by doing so we can change Polish oncology for the better"-. said Kamil Dolecki, President of the Sarcoma Association.
This year's edition brought together participants not only at the National Cancer Institute in Warsaw, but also in Starachowice, hosted by the Powiatowy Zakład Opieki Zdrowotnej, and in Szczodr, under the care of the Dolnośląskie Oncology Centre. The virtual run, meanwhile, united Onc Runners in Paris, Montreal and Geneva.
"The hearts of Starachowice and Szczodry were beating today in a common Onkobieg rhythm. We are extremely pleased that once again we can boast such wonderful partners who took it upon themselves to organise the stationary runs, which, believe me, is a logistical challenge. I would like to congratulate the organisers of the runs - Ms Małgorzata Kałuża, Head of the Communication Department at the District Health Care Centre in Starachowice, and Prof. Marcin Ziętek from the Lower Silesian Oncology Centre, who led the run in Szczodre. I believe that the slogan "Together for health!", which has guided us since the beginning of the Onk Run, will bring even more people together next year.- summarised Szymon Bubiłek - Vice President of the Association, organiser of the Onk run.
The Flagship Run in Warsaw is accompanied every year by educational panels, which can be followed online, and so it was this year too. Oncology experts, specialists in healthy nutrition or prevention, as well as diagnosticians and representatives of patient organisations, jointly discussed patients' needs, opportunities for change, but above all prevention. The oncology cook-off was hosted, as every year, by Dominik Moskalenko, and the musical setting was provided by Dj Spox and Radio ESKA. In addition, in a specially set up town, the Onk-runners could take advantage of free examinations. There was also no shortage of non-governmental organisations which exhibited their stands spreading their mission. Among them were: the "AMAZONKI" Association Warsaw - Centrum, the MultiSport Foundation, the DKMS Foundation or the EuropaColon Poland Foundation.
"Every year, new participants line the Onk Run route alongside familiar faces. We are delighted that the idea of the run spreads and gathers so many wonderful people. Because, although each of us is different and has different goals and dreams, on the day of the Onkobieg we are united by one thing - to show support for cancer patients. I would like to wish all the runners and their loved ones good health. See you next year at the start of the 18th Onk Run!", concluded Ewa Styś, Member of the Sarcoma Association and organiser of the Onk Run.
