TPK - a new health service

Looking for medical assistance in the evenings and nights, at the weekend or on a holiday? Call 800 137 200 and use the First Contact Teleplatform (TPK)

The National Health Fund has launched the First Contact Teleplatform (TPK). It operates on similar principles to night and Christmas healthcare, with the difference that consultations are provided over the phone. It makes it easier than ever to receive the medical care you need outside GP working hours. In addition, without leaving your home, digitally and conveniently. All you have to do is call the free phone number 800 137 200.

Who can use the TPK

Any person insured with the NFZ and living in Poland. The call can only be made from Poland. Advice is provided in Polish and in several foreign languages: English, Russian and Ukrainian.

TPK can also be used by deaf people. The teleplatform offers them conversations via a special video chat. Communication takes place in sign language, with the support of a Polish sign language interpreter. Take advantage of the video chat.

When TPK works

Patient calls are answered from Monday to Friday between 6pm and 8am the following morning, i.e. after the opening hours of the PCP clinic. The platform also operates around the clock on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

When you can use TPK

Call TPK when:

  • you suddenly fall ill and your GP is no longer working
  • your health suddenly deteriorates, but you do not have symptoms suggesting an immediate life-threatening condition, and over-the-counter remedies or medicines have not resulted in improvement
  • there is a concern that waiting for a GP surgery to open may adversely affect your health.

What can be obtained through TPK

Through TPK you will obtain:

  • medical advice
  • e-prescription
  • e-referral
  • e-exemption.

How TPK works

  1. Call the toll-free number 800 137 200 and you will hear a short message to let you know that you have reached the First Contact Teleplatform.
  2. Select the language you wish to speak.
  3. In the first instance, you will be contacted by a nurse or midwife. He or she will check that you are eligible for healthcare services, register your application, and carry out the interview necessary to assess your condition.
  4. The nurse or midwife can give you an e-prescription and advice. In emergencies that threaten life and health, they will call an emergency medical team.
  5. If the nurse or midwife feels that you need an additional consultation, then they will redirect you to a doctor, during the same call.
  6. The doctor will complete the history taken by the nurse or midwife. He or she can issue you with an e-prescription, e-referral or e-release.
  7. When you require urgent medical intervention, your doctor will call an emergency medical team. If you require to see a doctor in person, he or she will refer you to the nearest in-patient night and Christmas care facility.
