The Sarcoma and Sarcoma Association invites you to the most important run of the year "16 Oncourse - Together for Health!"
"Onkobieg - Together for Health!" is an event with a fifteen-year tradition created with oncology patients in mind.
"Knowing what difficulties patients face every day, we express solidarity with them and their loved ones in such a symbolic way as the run. We want to sensitise the public to the needs of others and make them aware of prevention." - says Kamil Dolecki, organiser and President of the Association.
As in recent years, runners will be able to choose which running formula they wish to take part in: stationary - along a designated route in Warsaw - or virtual - along any route of their choice.
"We are taking off on 10 September 2023 at the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw. We will all run at 11:00 am under the slogan Together for health! Sport and a large dose of knowledge about cancer prevention are areas that undoubtedly distinguish Onkobieg. Since 2020, talks with doctors and specialists have become a permanent part of the event's agenda, sharing their knowledge in an accessible way, emphasising that with the right lifestyle we can reduce the risk of contracting the disease." underlines Szymon Bubiłek, organiser and Board Member of the Sarcoma Association.
During this year's edition of Onkobieg, the organisers will pay particular attention to the rehabilitation of patients and those who have already undergone treatment.
"Oncology treatment brings with it many challenges for patients. This year we want to highlight their needs for motor and also social rehabilitation." - adds Ewa Styś, organiser and member of the Sarcoma Association.
Registration of participants takes place exclusively via the website www.onkobieg.pl and will run from 23 May to 15 August or until packages run out. The registrant will have a choice of one of the runs to be held 10 September - a run in Warsaw at the National Institute of Oncology at 11am or a virtual run at a location of your choice. When choosing a virtual run, it is the participants who decide on their route. It is important that the declared distance during the hour-long activity closes between 7:00 - 12:00.
The organisers are confirming a live broadcast from the studio in Warsaw, where talks will be held with invited guests - doctors, patients - to raise awareness and engage the public in physical activity and education about prevention. Onkobieg is a year-round project whose idea is solidarity with patients undergoing treatment and their relatives, social support for those most in need and preventive health care. Thanks to funds raised from partners and donations from runners, the Association will reimburse travel to hospitals for diagnosis and treatment, rehabilitation and prosthetic limbs for amputee patients. Over 15 years, the Association has raised £1,150,000 and supported more than 320 patients and their loved ones.
If you are in good shape, you can run; if you are in lesser shape, a walking step or march is also welcome. Do you do Nordic walking? - Spend the morning with the Onk run. Often, participants in the run include people with disabilities, such as those on crutches or in wheelchairs, former and current patients, who deserve special respect. All with the idea - Together for health!
