'A Streetcar Named Desire' hits the streets again

Special buses and trams will once again educate young people about HIV prevention in 10 Polish cities. This year's campaign started in Poznań, with Wrocław, Warsaw, Bydgoszcz, Szczecin, Gdańsk, Olsztyn, Katowice and Cracow still to appear on the route. In June, the campaign will visit Białystok, and again in December - Gdańsk. The event is in its sixth edition this year and is organised by the International Federation of Medical Students' Association IFMSA-Poland.

The campaign aims to raise young people's awareness of safe sexual behaviour and influence a change in their attitude towards HIV testing.

According to the data they provided, estimates indicate that between 50 and 70 per cent of seropositive Poles are unaware that they are living with HIV. This is the highest percentage in the European Union.
