Another installment of the "Illness is not a sentence" project

Today, 16 July, the Gazeta Wyborcza published the next edition of the Medical Media Solutions Publishing Company's project entitled: "Illness is not a sentence".. The publication is dedicated to three very important topics: Polish and global diabetology, patients with IPF and the medical community that diagnoses them, and education on quality of life for people living with HIV.

DIABETES

Diabetes is a disease entity in which the patient's knowledge and cooperation with the doctor is crucial. It is worth quoting a statement made in the 1930s by Dr. Elliott Joslin - "The diabetic patient who knows more about his disease lives longer". This statement is still relevant today!

We recommend an interview with Prof. Grzegorz Dzida on the relationship between diabetes and heart failure, a talk by Beata Ambroziewicz on the need for integrated measures to reduce cardiovascular complications, a piece by Jurek magiera on the needs of patients with type 1 diabetes and an interview with Prof. Edwin Gale on the process of adjusting insulin therapy.

EDUCATION AND QUALITY OF LIFE

HIV health policy in our country in the form of: anonymous testing points; universal, free of charge antiretroviral treatment, available to all infected people is assessed as exemplary. So, what challenges does the contemporary HIV treatment process face, what is the assessment of the quality of life of patients and how should their needs be taken into account - answers to these questions can be found in an interview with Professor Alicja Wiercińska-Drapało.

THE NEED FOR RAPID AND APPROPRIATE DIAGNOSIS

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) belongs to a large group of interstitial lung diseases and is currently an incurable disease. The cause of the onset of this disease is unknown and this, among other things, makes it quite difficult to diagnose. IPF is often confused with other lung diseases. A full diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a complex process and requires the cooperation of a pulmonologist, radiologist and sometimes also a pathomorphologist. The issue of IPF is addressed in this publication by Dariusz Klimczak, president of the Polish Association for the Support of Patients with IPF, together with Katarzyna Lewandowska, MD.
