Spinal disorders

It used to be said that sedentary office work belonged to light work. Today, this view is changing dramatically. It is not a natural mode for the body. We need movement and fresh air.

Prevention of spinal disorders is the theme of today's "Wednesday with Prevention" - an educational action by the National Health Fund.

Do not underestimate this pain

Spinal and musculoskeletal conditions affect many of us. Neck, lower and middle back pain are some of the most common chronic complaints in adults. They can result from lack of physical activity or the excessive stresses we place on the spine and joints on a daily basis. Disregarding pain, symptoms of dysfunction can lead to degeneration treated only with surgery.

It all starts at an early age

Body posture is shaped from an early age. Early school age is the period for teaching good habits.

Our joints and bones benefit from daily exercise, walking, being outdoors and providing our bodies with vitamin D, which enables the absorption of calcium, a building block for bones. A diet containing calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D plays an important role.

How to prevent back pain

- Very often patients say that they have a lot of movement at work, that they run between floors. This is not movement that is a prevention of spinal diseases," says Dr Karolina Turżańska, M.D., in the video footage.

What are the rules for correct posture at a desk? How can you prevent back pain? Which forms of activity do doctors recommend for the prevention and treatment of spinal disorders? You will find out from the educational material prepared by the National Health Fund as part of the 'Wednesday with Prevention' campaign on:

Back, shoulder or hip pain can be eliminated by exercising with the National Health Fund's free physiotherapy app My Physio PLUS. These include exercises and self-massages prepared by physiotherapists, as well as a personalised exercise plan and a virtual coach to remind you to exercise.
