Changes to reimbursement for prostate cancer drugs are coming. What has the MZ planned for March?

The Ministry of Health, together with experts, has prepared changes to the provisions of the drug programme for the treatment of prostate cancer. - We will be preparing big changes for 1 March. (...) In the near future we will try to finalise this drug programme with individual companies and we will want to expand it," announced Maciej Miłkowski, Deputy Minister of Health, during the conference presenting the report "Wprost o prostacie. What should be changed in the system of care for prostate cancer patients in Poland?".

What will change in the treatment of prostate cancer patients?

According to the announcement by Deputy Minister Maciej Miłkowski, the aim of the changes is to broaden the indications for some of the drugs present in the drug programme, as well as moving selected molecules to the chemotherapy catalogue.

- We have broadened the indications in accordance with the expectation presented here, so that some of the drugs would be moved to the chemotherapy catalogue, so that it would be much easier for doctors to provide services without entering the relevant data into the SMPT system," the deputy minister indicated. He also added that due to the loss of patent protection for abiraterone acetate and the appearance of the first equivalents, the ministry asked the AOTMiT to analyse the transfer to the chemotherapy catalogue. - As well as assessing the extension of the indications that were defined in the CHPL to reimbursement in the full indication of formulations such as apalutamide, darolutamide and enzalutamide. What he wants to say is that we have received a positive assessment from the AOTMiT for the proposed changes. We will also be preparing major changes for 1 March,' said Maciej Miłkowski.
