On 24 August 2018 at 10.00 a.m. at the facilities of the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw, the 7th edition of the International Sports Games "Onko-Olimpiada" will begin. On the last weekend of August, children and adolescents with cancer from all oncology centres in Poland and young oncology patients from Ukraine, Lithuania, Slovakia, Romania and Turkey will take part in sports competitions in various disciplines. The Games will open with a torch run by actor Tomasz Ciachorowski. - "The Onco-Olympics, as the only sporting event of its kind for oncology patients in the world, is not only a sporting competition, but also great fun and shared joy in overcoming the disease - says Tomasz Osuch, president of the Foundation of Fulfilled Dreams, initiator and organiser of the "Onko-Olimpiada". The arena for the struggles of the little athletes will be the sports facilities of the Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. This year's games will traditionally be attended by patients from all oncology centres in Poland (13 teams), as well as patients from abroad (6 teams) - a total of almost 450 people. Participants will compete in such disciplines as athletics (60-metre run, 100-metre run), distance jumping, ball push, dumb-ball throw, assisted walking, football, badminton tournament, swimming, table tennis, archery. - Participating in the Onco-Olympics is a great opportunity for me. I have the opportunity to forget my illness and meet many people and integrate with those who have similar experiences. My disciplines are badminton and ping-pong. I am doing quite well in these competitions. I have won my life with my illness, in the Olympics I am hoping for a prize in kind - says Dawid Ptak, a young oncology patient. The culmination of the competition will be concerts and an integration barbecue, combined with a disco for the competitors, parents, volunteers and event organisers. This year's edition of the "Onco-Olympics" was held under the honorary patronage of the wife of the President of the Republic of Poland, Mrs Agata Kornhauser-Duda, the Ombudsman for Children and the Polish Paralympic Committee. The honorary committee included, among others: President of the Council of Ministers, Minister of Health, Mazovian Governor, Ombudsman for Patients' Rights, Metropolitan of Warsaw, Marshal of the Mazovian Voivodship and Mayor of the City of Warsaw. "Onko-Olympics 2018" will be hosted by well-known and popular TV presenters. In support of the "Onko-Olimpiada", many Polish celebrities have decided to put up auctions on Allegro Charity.
