On Grandmother's and Grandfather's Day, ask your loved ones about health

The aim of the 'Ask Your Loved Ones about Health' campaign, which has been organised for several years by the Friends of Lymphoma Patients Association 'Snowdrop', is firstly to encourage the public to observe their own and their loved ones' health and secondly to increase knowledge of the symptoms of lymphoid tumours.

Various diseases, including cancer, can cause symptoms that, by their very nature, are not clear-cut. This is why regular self-observation of one's body is so important. Symptoms accompanying tumours of the lymphatic system resemble those commonly associated with the common cold, and may therefore be misinterpreted, underestimated, unnoticed and often detected at an advanced stage, which significantly reduces the effectiveness of their treatment.

Education on how to recognise the symptoms of lymphomas seems particularly important, as there is unfortunately no prevention for these tumours and the only way to make an early diagnosis is not to underestimate apparently trivial symptoms.

A group at particular risk of developing lymphatic cancers are the elderly. Grandparents' Day is the perfect opportunity to talk about the wellbeing and health of your nearest and dearest. Any worrying symptoms should prompt us to make an appointment with our GP.
