"Where to seek help on nights, weekends and holidays" is the theme of the pre-Christmas "Wednesdays with Prevention" - an educational action by the National Health Fund.
A prophylactic reminder today:
- where to use night and holiday healthcare
- when to go to the hospital emergency department (ED)
- Where to go in the event of a sudden toothache or complications from previous treatment.
Illness can strike when we least expect it. We may feel worse at night, at the weekend or over the holidays - fever, stomach ailments. When we need medical attention and our GP is not available, there is a health service available.
Outpatient clinics for night and Christmas care (NICU) are available:
- Monday to Friday from 6pm to 8am the following day,
- 24 hours a day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays,
- free of charge and without the need for a referral.

Hospital Emergency Departments (ED) - do not take the place of a primary care doctor or a specialist clinic doctor; they provide medical assistance to persons in a medical emergency or life-threatening situation.
It is useful to know where we can find support in health emergencies.
You can find out about the rules for the use of night and Christmas care clinics and hospital emergency departments in the materials prepared as part of the 'Wednesday with Prevention' action available:
