The biggest challenge for the system is to provide safe healthcare in such a complex, challenging and rapidly changing environment.
For more than a year, the MPC has observed the exceptional attitudes of medical professionals who, in a pandemic situation, have shown great sensitivity, commitment and dedication - enhancing patients' sense of safety. Many of them helped patients after working hours or kept vigil with them - often replacing loved ones.
With such attitudes in mind, the decision was taken to organise the 'Medician for the Medal' competition, the aim of which is to honour medical professionals who, especially in these difficult circumstances, show special empathy, sensitivity and kindness. It is also an opportunity to thank those who save our lives and health on a daily basis.
Each application should describe the three criteria for assessing the candidate:
Safety - the applicant should explain why the staff member in question deserves to be named a 'Medal Medalist', what demonstrates his or her exceptional attitude and what his or her commitment - above average - consists of;
Communication - the qualities of a member of staff that demonstrate good communication with patients, what makes a doctor, nurse or midwife exceptional in this area;
Dedication to patients - describing the personality traits of a medical professional indicating a benevolent approach to the patient; despite the ongoing epidemic and extremely difficult situation, a medical professional should not forget to be kind and empathetic when providing health care; there are medics who attach exceptional importance to these issues.
The competition was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Supreme Medical Council and the President of the Supreme Council of Nurses and Midwives.
