Can art help with cancer? Can illness be played on the nose? Can you dance yourself to health? Yes! This is the assumption of the organisers of the 1st Warsaw Oncology Film Meeting, which will take place on 23 February this year at the Kino Elektronik cinema at the Warsaw Film School. The programme includes film screenings, therapeutic activities, an exhibition of drawings and paintings, meetings with interesting guests, as well as a dance! The Institute for Patients' Rights and Health Education has assumed patronage of the event.
CREATIVE SPACE, the brainchild of Maria Poszwińska, a patient of almost 20 years, is a therapeutic and artistic workshop and film project promoting art therapy, relaxation and anti-stress techniques and various forms of activity in the process of oncological treatment. The idea behind the initiative is to restore hope and life affirmation in patients through the use of a range of creative and relaxation art techniques.
The aim is also to create positive thinking among those struggling with the illness, which is crucial in the treatment process, as well as to support their relatives and the professionals who work with patients on a daily basis (psycho-oncologists, therapists, doctors).
One of the projects of the Creative Oncospace is the The 1st Warsaw Oncospace Film Meetings implemented in partnership with the Warsaw School.
On 23 February this year, the Elektronik cinema on the University's campus will host a free screening of films on art therapy and psycho-oncology, as well as meetings with their makers and invited guests. The programme includes documentaries Cantata for four wings, Music therapy - healing through art, Amazons, Inner power, Noise making. Participants will also be able to take part in workshops with Judy Turan, Dr Elżbieta Galińska and, for those wishing, an evening dance with Jacek Hałas. In addition to their educational value, the meetings are also intended to be a platform for the exchange of experiences and a space for mutual support during illness.
