Up to one in six ticks may be infected with the dangerous virus that causes tick-borne encephalitis [TBE], for which there is no effective cure. The only method is preventive action, i.e. immunisation. It is worth remembering this especially now that we will be spending more and more time outdoors. Green KZM Month is being launched. The Green Tick Vaccination Month campaign is implemented within the framework of the information and education campaign "Don't play with ticks - win against tick-borne encephalitis", which is aimed at all those who are active in nature [also in urban areas] and are therefore at risk of tick bites. The campaign is also aimed at people who travel to regions with particularly high levels of tick-borne encephalitis during times of tick activity. Green Tick Vaccination Month [23.04-25.05] is a campaign in which tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccination will be available at selected facilities. Interested persons should ask their general practitioner, during a pre-vaccination visit, about the rules of the action at a particular facility. PMS is a particularly dangerous tick-borne disease for which modern medicine has not yet found a cure, and which can have very serious health consequences. The STD virus, which belongs to the genus Flaviviruses, resides in the salivary glands of ticks and can therefore be infected practically immediately after a bite. By infecting the central nervous system, the virus can cause meningitis and encephalitis, which can lead to disability and even death. In Poland, awareness of the risk of SHE is still very low. While more and more people are becoming aware of the threat of boleriosis, there is still too little knowledge about the KZM, which can be effectively protected against by the possibility of vaccination. Unlike boleriosis [which is treated with antibiotics], however, there is no specific antiviral treatment for SHB. The only method is preventive action, i.e. vaccination.
