Forum Against Depression campaign: Free online training for teachers and parents on child and adolescent crisis and depression launches

Free online training for teachers and parents on mental health crises and depression among children and adolescents is being launched. The meetings are being organised as part of the Forum Against Depression nationwide socio-educational campaign under the patronage of the Polish Psychiatric Association and the Polish Suicidological Association.

A series of free online training courses for teachers and a training course for parents on depression among children and adolescents will be launched at the end of April. The organisers of the Forum Against Depression campaign are once again meeting the needs and expectations of education professionals and parents, enabling them to draw knowledge from experts who deal with the topic of crises in children and young people on a daily basis.

The aim of the training is to provide sound knowledge and practical information on the prevention of mental health crises among children and adolescents, as well as the needs of children in emotional crisis. We will talk about how depression happens in teenagers, how to spot it and what the warning signs are. Participants will receive knowledge on how the symptoms of depression in a teenager are different and how they differ from the symptoms of this illness in an adult. The training will also touch on the topic of self-injurious behaviour in children and adolescents, tips on what to know in order to wisely support a young person who self-harms. During the meeting, experts will try to answer questions such as: how to deal with crisis situations in the life of the family, how to deal with a maturing child in crisis, where to look for support, how to reduce risk factors for self-aggressive behaviour, suicidal thoughts and intentions, and how to strengthen the child's protective factors. In addition, they will address the role of the school in promoting mental health and preventing self-destructive behaviour in adolescents, define the school's options in responding to the disclosure of self-destructive behaviour, and suggest how to help the student seek healthier and safer coping strategies.

FORUM AGAINST DEPRESSION CAMPAIGN

The Forum Against Depression is a socio-educational campaign organised on the occasion of the National Day against Depression, starting in 2007.

The aim of the Forum Against Depression campaign is to provide real help to people suffering from depression and to make the public aware that it is not a condition that passes, but an illness that requires specialist support.

To date, more than 15 500 people have been reached by the campaign's educational activities, nearly 5 000 people have benefited from free consultations, the effect of reaching the public with information on depression is even greater when hundreds of articles and broadcasts on depression in the media are also taken into account.

A website operates throughout the year www.forumprzeciwdepresji.pl and Facebook fanpage www.facebook/forump przeciwdepresjiwhere all information about the Campaign is posted on an ongoing basis.
