DaVita dialysis station network launches nationwide education and prevention campaign on the occasion of World Kidney Day 2021, which falls on 11 March. It will fund basic screening for kidney disease for patients at risk (coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, hypertension).
The campaign is recommended by the National Association of Dialysed Persons (OSOD) and will be carried out at the facilities of the Diagnostyka laboratory network for one month.
Chronic kidney disease is now one of the most common diseases of civilisation. Nearly 700 million people worldwide already suffer from it. It is nowadays referred to as a silent epidemicbecause it can develop asymptomatically for up to 20-30 years. Sick kidneys don't hurtbut kidney disease attacks chronically and can lead to the need for dialysis or a kidney transplant. It is estimated that more than 4 million people in Poland suffer from chronic kidney disease - most do not know it.
