"Cultural emergency" in Bytom

Pilot programme of the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom

At the end of May 2019, the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom launched a pilot programme "Cultural Emergency".which is implemented in close cooperation with the Prof. Kornel Gibiński University Clinical Centre in Katowice and the Silesian Music Society.

The aim of the 'Cultural Ambulance' is to find a method of disseminating culture among adults with cancer, among those who are unable to participate in cultural life for health reasons, due to low immunity and many hours of sessions in hospital.

During the pilot programme, cultural meetings will be held once a week. Due to the treatment cycles, they will be held on different days of the week. So far, six such meetings have already taken place.

The programme also provides for coach trips to the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom on days when the museum is closed to visitors (Mondays). In this way, people with cancer will have the opportunity to visit the museum in safety, excluding the risk of infection that can occur in large crowds.
