On 25 May 2022, the theme "Wednesdays with Prevention" of the National Health Fund's cyclical action on health promotion is 'Prevention of tobacco dependence'.
A common cause of smoking by minors and adults is negative role models from home.
The PolNicoYouth survey conducted by the National Institute of Public Health - National Institute of Hygiene shows that 37% teenagers admit to smoking cigarettes or using e-cigarettes.
One in three students responded that their parents do not know that they use e-cigarettes or smoke regular cigarettes. More than half of those surveyed indicated that they had not had any problems buying nicotine products, and only a few per cent of young people had been denied the sale of nicotine products.
"Prevention activities against tobacco use should be targeted at children and adolescents in order to protect them from getting into this dangerous habit." - says Lukasz Balwicki, MD, PhD, from the Medical University of Gdansk.
