In 2023, around 10% mums-to-be were diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy.
This means that this problem affects 1 in 10 pregnant women. Moreover, statistics show that this number has remained at a similar level for at least five years.
Gestational diabetes can occur even in women who have no previous blood sugar problems. It is a glycaemic disorder that can affect the health of both mother and baby if not diagnosed and treated early enough. This is why it is so important to monitor blood sugar levels during pregnancy!
The National Health Fund has prepared an educational video, which is part of a series of Health at the forefront. You will learn from it:
- What are symptoms of gestational diabetes?
- Who is particularly vulnerable to its development?
- What research and testing worth performing during pregnancy?
- Like diet and lifestyle affect the health of mother and child?
