Do you listen, but do you hear?

3 March is World Hearing Day. As part of today's 'Wednesdays with Prevention', the National Health Fund is encouraging people to hear what experts recommend to enjoy good hearing for years to come.

"How to take care of your hearing?"

According to a World Health Organisation (WHO) report, the problem of hearing loss is becoming more acute. Projections are alarming: by 2050, one in four people will struggle with some degree of hearing loss. In Poland, this already affects 6% of the population.

What preventive measures can be taken from an early age to enjoy good hearing for many years to come? The NFZ, through education, raises public awareness of the risks to hearing and how to avoid them.

Why do we hear worse?

The number of people with hearing loss is increasing as a result of an ageing population. Younger people are also increasingly experiencing hearing problems - a result of living in noisy urban environments and excessive use of loud electronic devices fitted with headphones. We often underestimate the first signs of hearing loss. Untreated, they can have serious consequences such as hearing loss, withdrawal and dementia.

In the materials prepared as part of 'Wednesdays with Prevention', the NFZ provides answers to questions on hearing prevention, including what factors other than noise can increase the risk of hearing loss, how hearing loss can be prevented from an early age, where to seek help for hearing problems and how to maintain good hearing for years to come.

The National Health Fund has prepared educational materials on hearing prevention as part of its 'Wednesday with Prevention' campaign.
