Shameful diseases - education campaign

Why are there still diseases that are taboo to us? What is the problem of stigmatisation and who does it most often affect? Why do the majority of people affected by seemingly shameful diseases live in fear of discrimination and a sense of otherness and shame, and in fact remain alone in their illness? We want to combat this belief by making the public aware of the importance of a properly made diagnosis, correctly selected therapy and the patient's own knowledge of the specific illness in the treatment of these diseases. Hence, the educational campaign prepared by The Point "Shameful diseases. Let's overcome taboos' is a response to the need for social education, transfer of knowledge, which will allow people to understand that every disease, even the seemingly embarrassing one, is a normal condition that should be fought. The main Campaign Partner is the Institute for Patient Rights and Health Education. Medonet is the Media Partner. List of issues discussed and experts speaking: Patrycja Rzucidło from the Institute for Patient Rights and Health Education addresses the important topic of HIV infection. At the same time, she informs about the perverse campaign "Do you like risk? Check if you've won?", which aims to draw particular attention to the problem of alarming HIV infection statistics and to encourage people to take tests to rule out or confirm infection. On the subject of living with a stoma without shame, the everyday life of people with a stoma, the challenges and chances of normal functioning thanks to proper stoma equipment and care - we are told by Magdalena Derejska, M.D., stoma nurse Ms Grażyna Majewska, and a patient whose stoma saved her life. A topic related to the state of Polish Psychiatry, its ongoing marginalisation and the prospects for changes in the coming years that will allow for better care of the group of patients with mental disorders - we talk to Prof Agata Szulc and Prof Marcin Wojnar. The issue of depression as a mental disorder, still shrouded in social taboo and a sense of shame among patients, is brought to us by Joanna Chatizow from the Association Actively Against Depression. Intimate health, and more specifically the topic of erectile dysfunction and the reasons why men are still ashamed of their ailments, is raised in an interesting interview with Professor Zbigniew Lew-Starowicz. In addition, from the campaign readers will also learn how to naturally deal with the problem of embarrassing constipation, and what methods are available to treat unwanted scars.
